Sculpting core workout
Mat based class working on strengthening our core and glute muscles.
- Difficulty: Moderate
- Length: 40 minutes
The class begins by warming up with some exercises in standing then moving down to continue on the mat. As much as possible different level options are demonstrated for the exercises so work to a level you feel comfortable with. This class includes:
- Standing corkscrew
- Balance series
- Standing scissors movement with combined hip twist
- Half star toe tap
- Roll downs
- Four-point kneeling leg extensions
- Child pose stretch
- Hip twist with opposite arm opening
- Bridging with leg extension
- Double leg stretch
- Glute and hamstring stretches
- Sitting spine twist and mermaid stretch
We start the class by gently warming up in standing engaging our core with some balance, upper body and leg control exercises. Rolling down into four point kneeling we then begin to challenge our core control and glute muscle strength with some leg extension movements.
Moving down onto our sides we work our glute muscles further with clam and toe tap movements. On our backs we reflect our hip twist in standing by combining our opposite arm opening movement. We then continue to strengthen through our core muscles with both bridging and double leg stretch exercises.
Cooling down with some gentle spine and leg stretches on our backs and some gentle upper back stretches in sitting.
