Pilates for better balance

This is a mat-based class working to engage and strengthen key muscle groups that help support our balance.

  • Length: 42 minutes

The class begins in standing then continues into four-point kneeling, onto our sides and backs on the mat. Please always remember to work to a level that you feel safe and comfortable to do.

This class includes:

  • Standing toy soldier
  • Chest opening with heel raises
  • Knee taps
  • Squats with arm reaches and heel raises
  • One leg circle
  • Standing clam
  • Lunge to single leg stand
  • Opposite arm and leg extension
  • Roll downs
  • Four-point kneeling cat stretch
  • Swimming
  • Child pose stretch
  • Hamstring curls
  • One leg circles
  • Side lying side kick
  • Leg lift sideways
  • Rotating clam
  • Bridge with heel raises
  • Diamond legs and abdo prep
  • Glute and hamstring stretches
  • Sitting chest opening and spine twist

The class begins in standing warming up with a toy soldier movement and chest opening with heel raises. We then continue with some knee taps and squats with arm reaches and heel raises both challenge our balance. We then continue with some single leg control with a standing one leg circle and clam movements. Challenging our balance further with a lunge to single leg stand before rolling down to continue the class into four-point kneeling.

In four-point kneeling we work on our core control with a swimming movement. Then continue into our elbows and work our legs with a hamstring curl and one leg circle. We then move onto our sides and engage and strength our glutes with a side kick movement, leg lift sideways and rotating clam.

Moving around onto our backs we engage our core and glutes with a bridge exercise, diamond legs and abdo prep. We then cool down with a rotation stretch, glute and hamstring stretches. Finishing the class in sitting with a chest opening stretch and spine twist.
